2011-2013 Sensorial Loop

1st Tamworth Textile Triennial, Sensorial Loop

24 Sept - 26 Nov 2011

Aerial Lace is a suite of contemporary “lace postcards” that explore memory, place, and identity. The collection is a personal textile narrative. The work reflects on the experience of migration and diaspora from Chile to Sydney during my childhood. Fragments of past passports and photographs evoke memories of a time marked by political upheaval.  The spaces in the work signify gaps in memory, recollections of a past life fade through cultural assimilation into a new country.

Aerial Lace toured nationally for two years as part of the 1st Tamworth Textile Triennial, Sensorial Loop. The Triennial featured the work of 22 textile artists from around Australia exploring the change and blurring boundaries in Australian textile practice. The Triennial is an incarnation of the Tamworth Fibre Textile Biennial, and continues to be a rigorous and stimulating contribution to Australia’s cultural calendar.
